Three Ways Entrepreneurs Can Drive Global Impact

We were recently honored to be featured in Forbes exploring a question central to our mission at Entrepreneurs Across Borders (EAB): How can entrepreneurs create lasting global impact?

The article, “3 Ways Entrepreneurs Can Drive Global Impact” by Serenity Gibbons, highlights three powerful levers every entrepreneur can use to influence change. At EAB, these principles guide much of what we do — and we’ve seen firsthand how transformative they can be when put into practice.

1. Share Your Network

Entrepreneurship is not a solo journey. For emerging founders, access to the right people can mean the difference between an idea that stalls and a business that thrives. By opening doors — making introductions, connecting people across borders, and sharing our trusted relationships — entrepreneurs can accelerate opportunity for others.

“A single introduction can unlock opportunities that transform not just one business, but an entire community.”

EAB Example: Entrepreneurs hosted an event where we invited a Managing Director from TechStars and a few other investors from our network. There was a pitch platform at the event. The result was that 2 startups received offers on the spot. The TechStars Managing Director then went back to Jamaica, on her own and ended up investing in 6 Jamaican startups over 2 years. This is the power of sharing networks.

2. Mentor Boldly

Knowledge, experience, and wisdom multiply when shared. Mentorship is not just about offering advice — it’s about walking alongside someone, helping them avoid pitfalls, and encouraging them through challenges. For many entrepreneurs in developing nations, mentorship is the lifeline that helps them stay the course.

“Mentorship is the gift that multiplies. When one entrepreneur grows, they lift others with them.”

EAB Example: On one of Chris Cochran’s first trips to Jamaica he met a young man running a Business Process Organization. He had 17 employees at that time. The founder and Chris talked for about 20 min about his challenges, opportunities, and some practical management advice. Six months later when Cochran ran into him again he declared he had grown his employee headcount to 70! When he was asked how he did it, the founder stated, “I just did everything you told me to do!” This founder is now actively involved in EAB’s network and giving back to other local entrepreneurs.

3. Enable Market Access

Even with strong ideas and capable leadership, entrepreneurs face barriers when trying to enter new markets. Helping open these doors — whether through distribution partnerships, customer connections, or global visibility — is one of the most tangible ways to create lasting impact and support entrepreneurs.

“Opportunity without access isn’t opportunity at all.”

EAB Example: One of the founders EAB worked with wanted to expand into the US market. He ran a software development company that had some proprietary technology, but was not having luck. One of our mentors began making warm introductions to people in their network that might need the services that the founder’s company offered. This led to no less than four contracts with US based companies.

Why This Matters

At EAB, we believe entrepreneurship is the most powerful lever for economic uplift — but it only works when it’s inclusive. These three pillars are not abstract concepts; they are practical, actionable commitments that any entrepreneur can make today.

When we share our networks, mentor boldly, and enable access to markets, we create ecosystems where entrepreneurs are not only surviving but thriving — and in turn, they uplift entire communities.

“Entrepreneurship becomes global impact when generosity and connection lead the way.”

We’re grateful that Forbes has brought these ideas into the spotlight, and we look forward to continuing this conversation with our global community of entrepreneurs, mentors, and partners.
